Recently I’ve had the opportunity to reconnect with an old friend who’s in the motorcycle industry, which has been a joy. Aside from the satisfaction of seeing an old friend, it’s been great to be around motorcycles again. In the summer of 2020 I took the state-run weekend course again, for the second time, 20 years after I took it the first time. After that, I took a day long dirt bike course in King George, Virginia at a place called DC Dirt Camp.

Riding dirt bikes requires some unique skills, especially navigating uneven terrain, and it was fun to drill those with professional guidance. Prior to this I had spent a lot of time on dirt bikes, but never in any formal setting. The proprietor of the business turns out to be a great instructor and person also, named BJ Hessler, whom I interviewed here on ADV Moto:

Here are a few photos from the course:

If you’re interested in this sort of thing and you’re in the D.C. area, I highly recommend it. The specific class I took was the level 3 “Clutch capable” dirt bike course, but they offers others which you can find on their website: dcdirtcamp.com
