Song of the Day #57: Mann’s Fate

Jorma Kaukonen & Jack Casady (Hot Tuna) – Mann’s Fate

I didn’t know of Hot Tuna until a few years ago when my Dad mentioned in them in passing. Turns out, they’re great. They’re also super hippies (check out Jack Cassady). Great music though, especially Jorma on the acoustic. That’s some mean finger pickin’.

Song of the Day #56: 6 Foot 7 Foot

Lil Wayne (ft. Cory Gunz) – 6 Foot 7 Foot

To me, this is one of those rare tracks that has commercial appeal as well as artistic integrity in mainstream hip hop (Kanye’s recent album was like this, also). What makes this special is that the format of the song is so unconventional – instead of alternating between rap verses and sing-along choruses, the entire thing is rapping. The beat is by Bangladesh.

“Real G’s move in silence like lasagna” – Has to be the best Lil Wayne line I’ve heard.

My only criticism is that I don’t like Cory Gunz at all. The track would be better off ending with Wayne’s verses.
