Seven (or is it eight?) years after leaving my office job in Tysons Corner, Virginia behind, I returned with my mother in tow last week. My brother in law is still there, running things and pushing an incredible amount of paper. They’re currently tied up with bidding for government contracts, not much different from when I made my departure, albeit on a larger scale.

It felt strange to go back. Familiar yet distant. Overall this experience of returning to Northern Virginia and visiting familiar places and seeing old friends has solidified my commitment to not getting caught up in that area. When I went back I even ran into some people that I worked with there, so many years ago. Their eyes communicated everything I needed to know. It’s great to have been able to return, say hello, and get a feel for the place again.
