The Giant Panda is associated with Chengdu to the degree that you see references to it everywhere in the city. And generally it is in what feels like a ham-fisted way for local bureaucrats to clutch onto the only persistent imagery which people, near and far, relate to Chengdu. But every once in a while, you see something which is a great representative.

Chengdunese Street Art

This new art piece recently went up on the side of a concrete walk-up building in the Yulin neighborhood of Chengdu, and it’s not alone. Over the last three years, this sector of the city has become home to a lot of street art, which is sanctioned by local government.
