Song of the Day #200: Anvil

Lorn – Anvil

Lorn is a Milwaukee based electronic producer who signed with Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder label in 2009. This stupendously well produced music video includes the description:

The year 2100. In an effort to combat overpopulation, the postmortem social network "Anvil" is released and made mandatory to all. A fusion of both Japanese and Belgian comics inspirations and sensibilities, such as Ghost in the Shell, Akira or Peter & Schuiten's work. "Anvil" invites us on a journey through the eyes of a young woman in her final moments on earth.

Song #200

Well, this is it. I think I'm done with this project. It has lasted more than 6 years, starting with Beck's Deadweight (released almost exactly 20 years ago, in 1996 on Odelay). It has been a lot of fun to look back on these songs even now, which I'm sure will only become more interesting as more time passes.

I will create a page/post to list all of the songs soon. And then perhaps create a series of mixes to include all of the songs (which was the original idea when starting this project).

Talking About China on The Third Eye Podcast

Last week I met up with some new friends and was a guest on their podcast, called The Third Eye, to talk about China. They record and publish new podcast episodes every week, half in English and half in Chinese. Both of these guys speak very good Chinese.

What was interesting and different about this podcast (different from say, the Chengdu Living podcast) is that there was no pre-determined subject or direction for the conversation to go in. Thinking we were just chatting, I asked nine minutes into the podcast: “Are we recording?”

2018 update: The original link has been removed since this podcast was discontinued, but it is available for download and streaming on the podcasts page.
